My wish has finally come true, the many years of putting a puppy at the top of every birthday and Christmas wish-list was well worth it because my family got a puppy!
We’ve had Minnie for 4 weeks now and its safe to say it has been the best 4 weeks. Quite tiring at times, but that’s part of the fun of having a puppy. Minnie is a dachshund, aka sausage dog, which you couldn’t really tell at the start because she was so tiny! But now that she’s 12 weeks old she’s getting longer and really starting to look like a little dachshund.
As you may be able to tell by the spelling of her name, Minnie is named after Minnie Mouse because if you didn’t know, my whole family and I absolutely lovely Disney! So we couldn’t resist naming her after a Disney character. But most people who ask what her name is just think we called her Minnie, because well… she’s very small!
One thing I will say though is that people aren’t lying when they say having a puppy is like having a baby! They constantly need to be watched, you need to make sure they’re eating and drinking enough, but they do actually sleep for most of the day! And if your puppy is anything like Minnie, then they love sleeping on your lap and having cuddles, which is honestly the sweetest thing.
We’ve been taking Minnie on walks for almost 2 weeks now and she’s starting to enjoy them a lot more than the beginning! Though she does like to stop every 10 seconds which makes dog walks pretty long… But in the past few days she’s actually begun playing with other dogs as well and even interacting with dogs 10x the size of her! Which is a huge step as she used to hide behind mine or my mums feet when any dog approached her!
So the last thing to cover in this first chapter on having a puppy, playing. Minnie loves playing… with anything! Honestly she’s managed to take the socks off my feet and run away with them. But we’re getting there with teaching her what are actually her toys she can play with, and what aren’t. One big thing we’ve realised, is that when she wants you to play with her she’ll start biting your ankles and scratching your feet until you stop whatever you’re doing, sit on the floor, and play.
Well, if you can’t tell from this post (and my Instagram), I’m pretty obsessed with this little pupper! It’s only been 4 weeks but I already can’t remember what it was like before we had her, I mean yes my social life has gone out the window because i’m home taking care of her everyday. But she’s worth it! Its crazy how quickly puppies grow, but it’s also the best thing being able to watch them do it. So yep, this is the first chapter in having a puppy and as you can see, i’m one proud puppy owner!
So until next time, Maisie.
